Day 2: Narita, Japan Airport Arrival Photos

Our tour group guide told us that after the March, 2011 Tsunami Japan is conserving energy. And the way we feel it is in the lack of air conditioning! It's warm and muggy at the airport, but not hot. Here's some photos from our arrival.

Coming through customs. Notice the lower left corner of the rug says "disinfection."

Regular western toilet/ bidet. Lotsa buttons.
Bidet buttons. Every bathroom has buttons with instructions translated into English.
Japanese Squatting toilet, women's stall. This one so clean - also has flush button options. You don't sit on that hump in the front, thats actually a splash guard. If you squat put you cell phone somewhere secure, as opposed to in your pocket where it can fall into the toilet...

Our first convenience store is right at the airport. The seaweed wrapped riceballs are EVERYWHERE! Great snacks too. There 120-150 Yen.
Treats at the airport convenience store. Japan has multi flavored Kit Kats. A full box of 10 boxes for 1,000 yen is the best deal, These are 157yen each. At departure they we only 120yen each.
Seattle Mt. Rainer Coffee in Japan. They call this in Japanese-English "Kan Kori" or canned coffee. I was concerned there'd be a lack of coffee in Japan. That's NOT the case. Outside of convenient stores and vending machines, most restaurants (mid grade and higher) do carry coffee.
Dry snacks made of dry fish...sushi!! Look at the top right corner, it's octopus.
Entry hallway from the gate. "Quarantine and health consultation. Please visit the health consultation room in case of any health problems." Love the care Japan takes for cleanliness and health.

We will be shipping our luggage the whole trip. From Narita to deliver luggage upon arrival to Hiroshima is ¥1,900 (about $20 US). The Japanese use this luggage shipping system throughout the country. Its extremely convenient, safe and fast. It'll be tough living out of a carry on, especially my small one. But I packed light for all our walking and stair climbing throughout the rail system..

Happy travels!!
